The twenty-sixth tabletop happening of 5×7 UNDERGROUND occurred on Tuesday, August 24th, 2021 from 5-7 p.m. “Secret” was the theme and chosen by member, Jeff Sharp who also required that each piece have a hand-drawn element.

The twenty-sixth 5×7 Underground met at American Ice Co. Cafe in Westminster, MD. Excellent beers and sandwiches and a great place for a mini art show!

Artists in attendance included: Jeff Sharp, Mary Beth Francis, Jim Roberts, Lauren Latané-Valis and Thomas Sterner with guest appearances by the new Carroll County Arts Council director, Eric Kerchner and local artist Lindsay.

Each artist presented their interpretation of Secret beginning with Jeff Sharp. After each 5×7 UNDERGROUND artist presented their work in rotation, the work was displayed for a gallery photograph.

“You may not know me, but try and guess something about myself that I never told anyone. Use the visual clue above, and once you figure it out, it’ll then be our little secret!

Seeing the priest through the barrier window in the confessional booth, and confessing ones sins, was always traumatic for me growing up. This ‘Secrets’ theme prompted me to think about and portray this experience. But this portrayal is an interaction that reveals the priest’s reaction, who’s expressions show the dismay and shock of secrets revealed.
